Tales of the Rosewood Scrub - Memories of a Barefoot Boyhood

Tales of The Rosewood Scrub - Memories of a Barefoot Boyhood

Author: Digger Schumann

Recollections of those whom Digger Schumann remembered from his early life whetted his appetite to write down their stories. He traces his family lines back to Germany and tells how they, after arriving in Australia, helped to open up “The Scrub”. He writes about his school years in Marburg, his joy of swimming in the Black Snake Creek and how people were living in those days.

A delightful story that gives the reader a very good picture of what life was in and around Marburg from 1875 onwards.

Price: $10.00

 Dairying in the Rosewood Scrub

Dairying in the Rosewood Scrub

Author: Frank Snars

This booklet recalls the way the dairy farmers in the district operated and how inventive the early settlers were. It tells how families could only earn a living by involving their children in the work on the farm. Often they were the ones who, not only had to bring in the cows to be milked, but from a young age it was also done by them.

The dairy farmers formed the first co-operative creamery in the Rosewood district and were able to sell their butter all the way to the London markets. Dairy farming declined when fewer men wanted to work on the farms after returning from the war.

Price: $10.00

The Bush Chapel Woodlands of Marburg

The Bush Chapel Woodlands of Marburg

Compiled by Susanne Ruys

A little church, built in 1885, is moved from its original site in Tallegalla to a new location in Marburg in 1901 and from there in 2006 to its present location at Woodlands of Marburg where it is now restored as a wedding chapel. A story well worth recording.

This booklet tells about the first Catholic settlers who built the church and about the families that looked after it for more than a century. It also explains the connection between Marburg, the chapel and Woodlands.
